Mosquito Magnet
If you think mosquitoes are just annoying little bugs that try to bite you. You are wrong. Not only do mosquitoes bite you and suck your blood, they also give you a large, itchy and sometimes painful lump that can take a while to go away. But this is not the worst of it. People can even have an allergic reaction to the saliva from the mosquito when it bites you! If you think that is the worst of it, you are still wrong. Mosquitoes can infect you and animals with potentially deadly disease and viruses.
Mosquitoes transmit several dangerous viruses and diseases. These include: West Nile virus (which affects animals and humans), malaria, and yellow fever. In animals, mosquitoes cause heartworm, which can eventually kill them. Horses can be affected by Eastern equine encephalitis. Malaria, yellow fever, and west Nile virus are potentially deadly and very difficult to treat, so it is best to avoid getting bitten by a mosquito to begin with. All of these reasons are why you need mosquito control. But what entails good mosquito control?
One method of mosquito killer is to use poisons, such as pyrethrins. You can spray the poisons yourself, or hire a professional. The poisons are to be sprayed where adult mosquitoes like to rest. This is usually on leaves, tree limbs, shrubs, bushes, and high grasses and weeds.
The next method is to use mosquito magnet or trap. There are two kinds available. The first kind is an insect electrocute light. These traps attract mosquitoes and then electrocute them, which then reduces the amount of mosquitoes around your yard. The second kind of mosquito trap is those that emit carbon dioxide (what attracts mosquitoes to people and animals). The mosquito then goes to the source of the carbon dioxide and gets sucked into the trap, where they dehydrate and die.
Lastly, you can eliminate the source of mosquito larvae. Mosquitoes like to lay their eggs on free standing water. If there is no free standing water, then mosquitoes can't lay their eggs. Some sources of free standing water are: ponds, animal watering dishes and containers, wading pools, kiddie pools, bird baths, and even water that collects somewhere from a recent rainfall. Some of these sources of free standing water can't be eliminated. You can't take away your pets watering bowl! In this instance you need to change the water at least once a week, preferably every day. This way the mosquito larvae will die.
Now that you see why you need mosquito control, you should be running out the door to get your mosquito problem under control. Now that you know some methods of mosquito control, get out there and get rid of them!
