Effective Mosquito Control
Mosquitoes are an annoying pest that has been on the earth since the time of the dinosaurs. Once thought to just be an irritating insect, it is now know that mosquitoes can cause many diseases and transmit several potentially life threatening viruses. This is why it is very important that you have effective mosquito control wherever you live.
Mosquitoes transmit several dangerous viruses and diseases. In 1999 there was a terrible outbreak of west Nile virus. West Nile virus not only affected people, but animals as well. Mosquitoes also transmit deadly malaria and yellow fever. In animals, mosquitoes cause heartworm. Horses can be affected by Eastern equine encephalitis. Malaria, yellow fever, and west Nile virus are potentially deadly. They can occur anywhere in the world, but they are more common in third world counties, which make traveling to these destinations a bit dangerous. Treatment is also difficult, so it is best to avoid getting bitten by a mosquito to begin with.
With the proper mosquito control, you can limit the chances of getting one of these mosquito-borne disease or viruses. There are several means of mosquito control available. One method is to use poisons. There are several available that can be sprayed throughout your yard or garden. These are to be applied on all plants, shrubs, and tree limbs.
The next method of mosquito control is to utilize mosquito traps. There are two kinds. One trap electrocutes the mosquitoes it attracts, along with other bugs. The other kind of mosquito trap uses carbon dioxide (which is what attracts mosquitoes to humans and animals due to out breathing) to lure the mosquito. It then sucks the mosquito into the trap and the mosquito dies of dehydration.
Another method of mosquito control is to prevent any mosquitoes from laying eggs. Mosquitoes lay eggs on free standing water. If you eliminate the free standing water sources, mosquitoes can't lay their eggs. Free standing water sources can be: ponds, animal watering dishes and containers, wading pools, kiddie pools, bird baths, and even water that collects somewhere from a recent rainfall. Some of these free standing water containers are needed (like animal watering dishes), so if you can't remove them, you need to empty them out at least once a week or more often. This will destroy any mosquito eggs and larvae and thus break the life cycle.
Now that you know what awful disease and viruses mosquitoes can cause, you can see why effective mosquito control is necessary. With effective mosquito control, you will better insure the safety of your family and pets. If you live in a mosquito prone environment, be sure to utilize as many of these methods as you can.
